Traditional consultancies pride themselves on holding esoteric knowledge and charging extensively for it.  Yes, they actually hold a certain pride in extracting the highest price from clients. It’s not a bad economic model (at least in the short term), but it is a terrible model for building long-lasting relationships of value.

Since my goal is to develop a long-lasting relationship where we are both thrilled with the value I’ve provided, I don’t operate like any other consulting company.  Here’s my method:

Identify a Need: Do you have a business need that aligns with one  of Successant’s principle-based models for success?  It’s hard to imagine any organization that doesn’t, but one should never just assume, right?

Define Initial Goals: What goals are you looking to achieve?  At this stage, things are still pretty conceptual, but I’ll start working with you to immediately add value through honing in your optimal initial goals.

Set a Budget: What budget, time and resource commitment are you looking to aim toward?  This is backward from most consultancies, but a relationship of trust requires open communication (which is our goal for this partnership).  Starting with these constraints also saves you a lot of time.

Determine Scope: Based upon your budget, I’ll suggest a scope of what goals can be accomplished.  If you agree this is worthy of the budget, we proceed, if not, let’s keep talking and clarifying.

Determine the Services: Successant offers 3 levels or phases of service (see below for more) which allows for great flexibility and creativity in meeting your specific, personalized objectives and investment.

Success Measures: Finally, we’ll determine the most fair way to define and structure in Successant’s absolutely unique “Success Guarantee”.

Levels / Phases of Services

Successant’s customized solutions are enabled due to a consulting model that leverages 3 phases of successful change which offer basically 3 levels of service:

Define: Successant works with you and your team to better determine the nature of your current state, understand the principles which help define a new future state and define a roadmap of incremental improvement goals to drive and deliver the change.  The Define phase is largely comprised of two offerings:

Assessment: A Successant Assessment can determine the health of your organization’s current state in the area of desired performance and change.  It includes a full range of quantitative measures and qualitative input from your team as measured against a standard, principle-based model .  All Successant Assessments yield an informed descriptive report of your organization’s current state and a clear, specific, prescriptive roadmap for incremental improvement goals.  An Assessment is a tremendous way to realize the value of Successant’s approach with minimal investment.

Workshops: Successant’s Workshops are highly interactive and engaging and in keeping with Successant’s consulting approach, each workshop is custom tailored to your goals and organization.  The aim of each Workshop is to equip participants to answer the critical questions related to your desired areas of change and to leave the workshop with a clear list of focused action items, defined goals and the means to better measure progress.  Workshops results are further reinforced with personalized follow-up with each participant.

For optimal results, many clients prefer to perform an Assessment as foundational preparation for Workshops. This approach allows the Workshop to be even further customized to the specifics of your organization.

Execute: Successant will also work with your team to plan, communicate and successfully execute the change process.  Successant’s consultation for execution, like all Successant solutions, is customized for your organization and unique goals, but this phase of change always features the full suite of Successant principles, yielding:

    • Clearly defined, incremental goals
    • A shared understanding of the principle-based model so all team members can assess progress
    • Fully formed measurement criteria
    • Engagement of the leadership team so the principles are personalized and institutionalized for on-going success

Deliver: Change only takes root as a new, ongoing reality through time, practice, monitoring and active sponsorship.  Successant can team with your organization in a “retainer services” model as an extension of your team, offering advice, guidance, correction and assistance during the longer process of driving the change.  These “retainer servcies” are highly personalized to the specific needs of your organization but usually include:

    • Private follow-up with each team member to discuss, assess and adjust progress
    • Participation in team oversight sessions to offer real-time, situational guidance – driving the teams application of the principles for successful change
    • On-site visits for more intensive coaching
    • Interviews with organizational representatives to further evolve the roadmap of incremental improvement goals and the means by which the goals are pursued and delivered
